About The
Thorofare Volunteer Fire Company
We
are an all volunteer organization established in 1910 to
provide fire protection to the community.
Through the last century our role has evolved and expanded.
We now provide marine rescue, confined space rescue,
industrial rescue and industrial firefighting in addition to
basic structural firefighting and extrication services.
We work closely with the three other township companies and
West Deptford EMS to provide an
integrated response to types of emergencies in West Deptford
Township. When
necessary, we use mutual aid plans to call upon other area
emergency service providers to
bolster our response. Thorofare Volunteer Co. No. 1 was formed
and continues to exist for the sole purpose of serving the community. We plan and train diligently
to be ready to address and safely resolve any emergency that
might face our
community.

House Fire on W.
Jefferson St. (Paulsboro)
|
|
A fast moving fire destroyed a
home on W. Jefferson St. on Friday afternoon around
3 p.m. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the
home 5 minutes before the FD was dispatched. Once on
location, Chief Gary Stevenson - 1701, confirmed a
working fire as flames were seen coming from every
window on the first floor. The Chief immediately
went to a third alarm. Crews from Engine 1711 was
the first to arrive and began an interior attack
through the front door led by Lt. Keith Hogle and a
rear attack into the kitchen area led by Lt. Al
Giampola. The house had flashed over before the
arrival of the first engine. Deputy Chief Mike
Licciardello- 1701 handled operations. Engine 1711
was fed with a 5" supply line from Engine 1721 which
was on the hydrant at Jefferson & Delaware streets.
Ladder 2116 (Gibbstown) was set up on Division "D"
side of the house. It was fed with a supply line
from Engine 1921 (E. Greenwich FD). Crews from
stations 6-1 (Thorofare), 7-3 (Westville)& 5-1
(Woodbury) handled extinguishing the flames on the
Division "B" side of the home as well as ventilating
the roof. Crews from 21-1 (Gibbstown) & District 19
(E. Greenwich) worked on putting out the flames from
the Division C & D sides. Crews remained on the
scene for 4 hours. The cause of the fire was
determined to have started in the kitchen when a
large pot of cooking oil caught fire on a stove.
There were no injuries.
